Conference on Occupational Safety and Health in Electrical Power Systems and Processes
the introduction :

The idea of establishing this conference emerged due to the large number of accidents in the electrical energy sectors and in an effort to activate the care of safety systems in most operations in the sector, especially after the Corona pandemic.
The conference covers various topics related to occupational safety and health in electrical energy systems and processes, the impact of climate change and the transition to green energy on energy workers, and exemplary safety practices in electrical energy systems and processes. This conference is considered an important event for discussing the safety of electrical processes and a role model for cooperation. Legislative sectors and energy industry sectors in order to develop safety in all areas of their work, where experts from these sectors meet to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and present success and excellence stories, case studies, issues related to legislation, and the latest developments and innovations. It is also worth noting that the conference includes 20 key speakers and more than 20 specialized entities participating from several leading companies, institutes and centers from different countries, including, for example: the International Labor Organization (ILO), the General Union of Electrical Workers, and the Federation of Trade Unions. In Jordan, the Arab Society for Occupational Safety and Health (ASOSH), the Jordanian Engineers Association (JEA), and the International Engineering Consulting and Training Company – as a leading company in sponsoring and implementing occupational safety and health programs in the Kingdom -.
To this end, the administrative body of the Electrical Workers Union began putting forward the idea of this conference to attract distinguished national men, leaders of companies and institutions operating in Jordan, and some union leaders to participate in this conference to remove obstacles to the sustainability of projects and investment in them to create jobs and safe livelihoods for workers in the sector in light of the climate change that we are experiencing. The peoples.

– An employee who works, advances, and creates in a stimulating and safe environment.

– A national union with a leading role for pioneering professional work in institutional volunteer work directed at electricity workers in all fields with the best practices and pioneering work in Jordan to reach a globally competitive professional community.
Objectives of the General Union of Electrical Workers:
– Taking care of the interests of electricity workers and defending their rights. Providing health and social services to workers affiliated with the union and establishing medical clinics and social and consumer care institutions for them. And work to raise the economic, professional and cultural level of workers in the production and distribution of electric light and electric power, and the manufacture and maintenance of electrical devices, tools and equipment.
Invitation to participate:
The committee invited the targeted people and urged them to participate by arousing their interest in this through motivational texts under the title “Why do I participate?” which included:
 To learn about the best ideas and the best investment value that can be achieved through this conference.
 Raising the efficiency of the company’s safety systems and standards by identifying the best solutions that suit the business.
 Because the conference and exhibition are directed towards those who are leaders in enabling safe behavior in business.
 To build a stronger and safer future for workers in the fields of energy and electricity.
 When I invest in attendance, I demonstrate (my reinforcement of the importance of encouraging and networking artistic and technical relationships in safe ways between employees and investors to sustain the life and empowerment of my invaluable organization).

It held a number of meetings starting on December 1, 2022, with which the features of the conference, its implementation mechanisms, and its details crystallized. The most prominent administrative works of the conference were as follows:
1. Forming a joint work team that included a member from outside the union to be used as a consulting partner for the conference due to his specialization in the field and his positive relationship with the electricity companies operating in Jordan. He is Eng. Walid Atwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Engineering Consulting and Training Company.
2. Many meetings were held since 12/1/2022 before the conference to find out the preparations and existing and joint work, and meeting minutes were prepared for most of them.
3. The conference work was divided into three sections: (before the conference, during the conference, and after the conference). The tasks were distributed to the members of the committee, and the cooperation among the members was unparalleled in its success.
4. It was ensured that all work classified (before the conference) was carried out before the conference date.
5. The meeting was held at the Landmark Hotel in Amman to verify the status of the works classified during the conference two days before the conference, the most important of which was the day before the conference. Some tasks were distributed to the members of the committee to organize the affairs of the exhibitors. Among the new tasks for the members of the conference’s preparatory committee and its president, Mr. Fakhri Al-Ajarma.
6. It was ensured that the work was carried out before and during the conference’s implementation date, and quick measures were taken to prevent any shortcomings in arranging the conference.
7. The president of the conference, Mr. Fakhri Al-Ajarma, fulfilled the desire of the Jordanian Electricity Distribution Company to sponsor and modify all publications, sponsorship panels, banners, and BACKDROP, out of the keenness of the committee and its president to build a system of consensus among all electricity workers through the union.
8. Assigning one of the members to document the conference procedures to benefit from them in subsequent conferences.
1/ The most prominent actions carried out by the strategic partner, in agreement with the union’s committee for the conference, were as follows:
– Setting goals, message, themes, title, slogan, target groups, and preparing the conference profile.
– Developing the scientific program, communicating with the participants and some specialized scientific bodies, reviewing and approving summaries of scientific papers, with active participation with the members of the committee and its chairman.
– Preparing honorary shields and writing and printing certificates of thanks, appreciation, attendance and participation for the participants and contributors to the success of the conference.
– Collect and make recommendations

– Forming a conference committee after the conference to follow up and implement the conference’s recommendations and the programs emanating from it.
2- The scientific aspects that were taken into account when developing the program:
Attention was paid to taking into account the relevance of the topics to the strategic objectives of the conference and its themes, as stated in the themes previously. As for the strategic objectives, they were as follows:
 The first strategic goal: Empowering workers to maintain the sustainability of a safe future of work.
 The second strategic goal: identifying the gaps, obstacles, their causes, and the challenges that workers face in light of climate change, and achieving sustainable stability and a just transition for workers.
 The third strategic goal: highlighting leadership and efficiency in safety systems and processes in the sector and the role of institutions in their contribution to achieving better change.
 Fourth strategic goal: Raising the cultural and behavioral level in the areas of occupational safety and health in operating companies.
 Fifth strategic goal: Achieving greater integration in the application of behavioral safety standards and systems in electrical energy operations in order to preserve economic capabilities (human beings, facilities, and flexible legislation).
– The programs varied between working papers, success stories, and case studies presented by companies, and the scientific program, working papers, and topics that were addressed in the conference were as stated in the conference program. as follows :

 The impact of climate change on workers and equipment in electricity companies in Jordan
 The impact of climate change and the transition to green energy on energy workers
 Regulations and laws related to process safety management and accident prevention
 Crisis management in the electric power sector
 Ideal practices in improving behavior to achieve safety at work sites
 Elements of emergency response plans in the safety of electrical operations.
 Mechanisms for promotion and empowerment in the areas of occupational safety and health for workers in the electricity sector
 Use safe and environmentally friendly insulation oils in electrical equipment
 Improving the quality of work and life, and enabling sustainable growth in safe work
 Ideal practices in the safety of operations systems and their role in avoiding losses
 Identify risks and manage the risks of electrical energy systems and operations.

– Diversity of presentation between theoretical and practical aspects and corporate experiences.
The conference management committee took into account that the presenter of the working paper should be specialists and those who have been related to working with occupational safety and health, climate change, and green alternative energy.

The most important recommendations and proposals resulting from the conference:

1- Building regional and global partnerships with companies, unions, and local and international organizations with specialization, to raise the performance efficiency of companies and workers in the field of public safety and occupational health, in order to preserve economic growth.
2- Conduct a special study in the electricity sector in Jordan, on the impact of (climate change and the just transition of workers) on job opportunities in the electrical sector.
3- Reactivating the Supreme Occupational Safety and Health Committee for the electricity sector in Jordan, which is composed of company administrations, the General Union of Workers in the Electricity Sector, and legislative and supervisory bodies.
4- Preparing a special study on the most important risks surrounding workers in the electricity sector, and rehabilitating and training workers according to this study, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
5- Spreading awareness at the individual and institutional levels, in the field of public safety and occupational health, through:
a. Using social media and various media channels.
B. Issuing a non-periodical publication specialized in the fields of occupational safety and health, environment, climate change, and disaster and crisis management.
C. Holding more specialized conferences and workshops in the field of occupational health and public safety.
6- Addressing the competent authorities to reconsider the necessary legislation, in accordance with international agreements, to ensure building an economy free of carbon emissions by holding workshops in this regard and submitting recommendations to the relevant authorities.
7- Launching creative union initiatives concerned with youth, green energy, and safe entrepreneurial work, and involving workers’ families in their activities.
8- Holding this conference annually… and expanding the sensitivity of communication with the sector.
